Kindergarten info session for parents is March 10

Posted On: Thursday, February 25, 2021

The Elementary School will host a virtual kindergarten information meeting Wednesday, March 10, at 1 p.m. Please join this opportunity and share the date with others you know who may be interested in sending their child to Ottawa Hills for kindergarten for the 2021-2022 school year.

To attend the Zoom Meeting, use this information:

  • Meeting ID: 994 3598 8300
  • Passcode: 851393

If your child is 5 years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2021, he or she is eligible to attend kindergarten. However, if you have not yet determined if you want to enter him/her in school, the Elementary School suggests you still complete the registration information and forms and let us schedule your child for screening.

Afterward, the school will give you the benefit of our best professional judgment regarding his/her school readiness. This will assist you in making decisions concerning your child’s registration. State law requires children to begin formal education by age 6.

Kindergarten screenings take place Wednesday, June 2, and Thursday, June 3.

We hope to gather for an outside luncheon at the playground for all incoming students on Wednesday, June 2, from 11:30 a.m-12:30 p.m.  This event is contingent on the state of the pandemic. More information will be relayed closer to the event date.

Please follow the steps below to complete your incoming kindergartener’s registration process.  All registration forms, both online and hard copies, must be completed by Wednesday, April 7, 2021.

Step 1:  Whether you are a new or returning parent/resident, you must complete the online forms at Click on Enroll in the District and then Click on Start Kdg. Reg. Today to complete the Powerschool/Residency information forms.

Step 2: Contact Karen Mayfield in the Superintendent’s office at 419-536-6371 to set up an appointment to complete your residency requirements. Mrs. Mayfield is able to answer any questions concerning residency.

Step 3: Once you have completed the online information and proven residency, please complete and bring into the Elementary School office the following forms (which are mailed to parents’ homes):

  • Health history form
  • Kindergarten Reading Risk Factors Questionnaire
  • Parent survey
  • Child’s birth certificate.

We will then schedule your kindergarten screening appointment at that time. No times will be scheduled without having the necessary completed forms and birth certificate.

Step 4: Completed physician’s report and dentist’s report (also mailed to parents) are required for all incoming kindergarteners. Your child will not be allowed to attend school on the first day (Aug. 17, 2021) if both forms have not been completed and returned to the office by that time.

If there are any medical concerns or allergies that need to be addressed before school starts, the school requests that you call the office directly (419-536-8329) to discuss these concerns.
