Notes about our Case Report (Tracker):

  • The quarantine cases reflect both students and staff who the district identified through contact tracing and have been affirmed by the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department AND all student/faculty/staff cases as voluntarily reported to us by Village families.
  • About quarantines: If someone has been in direct contact with a person who tests positive for the COVID-19 virus, he or she must quarantine for 14 days as symptoms can start anywhere from 2-14 days after exposure. The quarantine period starts on the last day the person was known to have had contact with a person who tests positive. The quarantine may end after 14 days only if the individual was symptom-free the entire time.
  • The faculty and staff population includes all full-time regular employees, as well as winter coaches, noon-duty monitors, employees of Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West working in our buildings, contractors, and all others covered by a supplemental contract with the district.

To comply with state and local health orders, Ottawa Hills Local Schools reports positive and quarantine cases of COVID-19 among students, teachers, and staff. The district is using Friday noon as the week-to-week reporting cut-off period. Those numbers will first be shared publicly with the OH community and then sent weekly to the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department.

The weekly COVID-19 Case Report is a coordinated effort between administrative staff and Superintendent Fineske (who also serves as the district's COVID-19 coordinator). Specific guidelines and protocols are mandated by the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department as to how a received positive COVID-19 is reported. Among those guidelines are rules on which lab result documentation is required for a case to be reported as positive. With a positive test result for COVID-19 detection, the patient is presumptively infected with the virus and presumed to be contagious.

This 2020-2021 Safe Fall Start-Up Plan was created over the past two months by the district's Coronavirus Response Team. Its 22 members represented teachers and staff, many of whom are also OH parents. It has been reviewed and approved by the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department and borrows guidelines from a regionwide consortium of northwest Ohio school districts.

Its purpose is to help keep everyone safe and our schools open starting Aug. 17. It has four categories: Prevention; Academic & Social-Emotional Supports; Social Distancing; and Hygiene and Cleaning Protocols. Each is divided by building and while there are similarities between each, the plan is organized in this format so you can view a side-by-side comparison. The document also includes a Frequently Asked Questions section.

On behalf of my fellow committee members, please review the document thoroughly; it is very comprehensive in scope.

Despite the team's hard work and collaboration, the plan remains at the mercy of COVID-19 and its impact on our community. That's why we will constantly monitor it and communicate regularly with you throughout the school year.
