Programs
Challenge Crew - High School: The Challenge Crew is a motivated group of students aspiring to promote positive changes in their school and community. Through leadership activities, service opportunities, acts of kindness, and fun, the members of the Challenge Crew hope to be a catalyst for their unique positive message modeled after the Challenge Day movement.
Chew On This: A series of evening seminars for parents led by local professionals. Topics will vary and will be relevant to raising children in today's world
Junior and Senior High Health Classes: Drug Prevention classes are taught by the Student Assistance Program Coordinator in grades 7 through 12. Topics include Alcohol and other Drugs, Peer Pressure, Communication Skills, Decision-Making, Stress, Healthy Relationships, and Refusal Skills.
"Not My Kid" Parent Program: A dynamic, video based program that empowers parents to take an active role in setting goals and limits for their children. The program provides an opportunity for participants to learn about and discuss the many challenges of parenting in today's society.
Red Ribbon Week: Annually in October, students are engaged in activity promoting a drug-free lifestyle. Assemblies and artwork accompany large red ribbons throughout both buildings
Second Step: The Second Step program is building a strong foundation for a new generation of socially and emotionally savvy children. Through the program, K - 8 students gain the skills and know-how to be kind, caring, and responsible members of society. Today students learn to solve problems on the playground; tomorrow they’ll manage conflicts in the workplace and everyday life. The classes are taught by the Student Assistance Program Coordinator and the Guidance Counselors.
Teen PEP (Peers Educating Peers): A youth-led primary abuse prevention program that involves youth in creating a positive environment where responsible decisions and respect are valued. There are no lectures and no judgments: the program simply arms northwest Ohio youth, ages 12-18, with facts about healthy relationships so that they can become leaders among their peers. Contact Darcy Browne or Jennifer Nagy for more information.
Y.E.S. (You're Extra Special) Program: A drug prevention program taught each month in the fourth and fifth grades by the Student Assistance Program Coordinator . Topics include Alcohol and other Drugs, Peer Pressure, Communication Skills, Decision-Making, Stress, Healthy Relationships, and Refusal Skills.
Youth Diversion Program: An opportunity for first time alcohol offenders to bypass legal charges through a program consisting of education and community service.
Youth to Youth (Grades 7 and 8): All Junior High students are welcome to join the Ottawa Hills chapter of Youth to Youth. Youth to Youth was founded in 1982 in Columbus, Ohio, as a community-based drug prevention and youth leadership program focusing primarily on middle school and high school students. The goal of its many projects is harnessing the powerful influence of peer pressure, making it a positive force that encourages young people to live free of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs.
All members of Y2Y are expected to perform at least two service projects throughout the school year. Members may choose from those planned by Y2Y or one of the two projects can be done outside of the group. Advisors keep track of all member service requirements, and should be contacted if an outside service activity is performed. It is important to the organization that all members learn to give back to the community and to experience the enjoyment that comes from giving to others. Contact Jennifer Sherman for more information.
