Representatives of the student body, administration, and staff are excited to host Winter Fest 2021 Jan. 30. We are proud of our student leaders for their creativity, hard work, and innovative thinking. As the COVID-19 pandemic ushers in a new dynamic of social limitations, Green Bear Nation is working hard to integrate safety guidelines into our cherished traditions.

Although we are unable to host the traditional Snowball Dance indoors, we are coordinating with the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department to host a socially distanced and COVID-compliant outdoor Winter Fest that will include a variety of fun and safe activities. The objective of Winter Fest is to keep students and residents safe while allowing an occasion for OH students to unwind, connect, and enjoy the best of the season. Students are encouraged to come dressed casually and enjoy hot chocolate, donuts, s’mores, a bonfire, ice skating (weather permitting), a DJ, and a photo booth on the front lawn.

In order to conduct this event safely without any repercussions, the Junior/Senior High School is  asking student and family to follow Ohio Department of Health COVID-19 guidelines. Similar to Homecoming, masks must always be worn and students will have staggered times to attend to ensure

  • the number of attendees is limited;
  • large group gatherings are avoided;
  • social distancing guidelines are in effect.

Arrival and departure times:

  • Freshmen: 7:30-8:45 p.m.
  • Sophomores: 8:15-9:30 p.m.
  • Juniors: 9:10-10:15 p.m.
  • Seniors: 9:15-10:30 p.m.

Unlike school dances, bids will only be sold to individuals. Organizers are asking students to avoid the tradition of asking someone to the event. Furthermore, Student Council and the Ottawa Hills faculty and staff will not be promoting before and after events. Students are discouraged from attending post-Winter Fest gatherings to ensure the safety of our students, teachers, and families.

We appreciate your understanding and support throughout these uncertain times. Thank you for the opportunity to allow students to enjoy the outdoors and to safely continue their treasured Green Bear traditions.

P.S. The Winter Fest committee is looking for seasoned firewood donations and assistance in setting up and maintaining the fire. If you have wood or assistance to donate, please contact Jessica Kozy, social studies teacher and Student Council advisor.
