2021 - Illustrator Chris Soentpiet

Chris Soentpiet, an award-winning illustrator of children’s books, is coming to the Elementary School Dec. 9-10.
 
Mr. Soentpiet (pronounced SOON-peet) is the recipient of the NAACP Image Award for “Outstanding Literary Work” and Parents Magazine’s “Best Book of the Year” for his Something Beautiful. A Korean-born adoptee, Mr. Soentpiet’s multicultural background and experiences are reflected in his choice of distinct cultural and historical settings for his books.
 
His other prestigious honors include the International Reading Association’s Book Award for More Than Anything ElseMolly Bannaky, and Coolies. His illustrations have been featured or reviewed in The New York Times, The Houston Chronicle, Ebony magazine, Newsweek, USA Today, and other media outlets.
 
His stunning realistic watercolors play with the illumination of light. Fellow illustrators at the Society of Illustrators in New York City awarded his artist realism with the Gold Medal, the organization's highest honor. 
 
To order his books, forms were sent home with OH students and were due no later than Friday, Dec. 3. Checks can be made payable to OHES.
