Congratulations to the boys' varsity golf team for this week (Monday, Sept. 23) winning its 11th consecutive Toledo Area Athletic Conference (TAAC) title. The team beat four other schools and freshman Eddie Griffin was named “Player of the Year.”
The TAAC finals were played at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio. Eddie shot an 87 to lead the Green Bears. As a team, OH finished with a combined score of 362. In addition to Eddie, other OH golfers named First-Team All-TAAC were seniors Nikko Martinez (who shot 90) and Owen Smith (who shot 89 and was last year’s TAAC “Player of the Year”). Senior Henry McQueen was named Second-Team All-TAAC.
The team went 6-1 this year (5-0 in the TAAC); the junior varsity was 0-5.
“The key to our success this year was the hard work and dedication the boys had at matches and practice,” said coach Tricia Fojtik. “They really used the feedback they got in practice to help them with course management.”
On Thursday, the team played in sectionals and finished fifth.
“This team has been amazing to work with,” added Coach Fojtik, who teaches for Sylvania Schools and has been playing golf for 25 years. “They are all really good kids who really and truly enjoy the game of golf. I feel very privileged to begin my coaching career with them.”
