With wins in sectional play later this month, the Ottawa Hills boys’ soccer team won’t have to travel far to play in district tournament action.
And for girls’ varsity tennis athletes, they won’t have to travel far this week for sectional play. That’s because Ottawa Hills hosted girls’ Division II action starting Oct. 3 (with a rain date of Oct. 4) at the Robert O'Connell Courts. For OH players (both singles and doubles) that qualify Oct. 3, they will play Oct. 5 to determine seeding for district play (at Bowling Green State University).
“It is prestigious for our district as well as extra work for the Athletic Office,” said Athletic Director Tammy Talmage. “But it’s worth it. Our teams and the community basically get to have home games for the early part of the state tournament.”
For boys’ soccer, the seed draw (determining who plays who in sectional matches leading to districts) takes place Sunday, Oct. 6, at 3 p.m. The first two rounds are hosted by whichever of the two teams is higher seeded. Those games across the state are being played Oct. 16 and 19.
Following sectionals, Ottawa Hills will host the Northwest District semifinals Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 5 and 7 p.m., and the district final Saturday, Oct. 26, at 3 p.m. Both are taking place at Niedermeier Stadium.
In addition to Ottawa Hills, the 11 boys’ teams assigned to the Northwest District include Archbold (last year’s district and state title winner) and four TAAC competitors: Cardinal Stritch, Emmanuel Christian, Maumee Valley, and Toledo Christian.
Winners of district tournaments advance to statewide regional action Oct. 29-Nov. 2. State semifinals are Nov. 5 for girls and Nov. 6 for boys; state finals are Nov. 8 for girls and Nov. 9 for boys.
Admission to the soccer matches will be $6 adults and $4 for students.
