Ten projects advance to State Science Day

Ten OH student science projects earned a “superior” rating at the March 7 Northwest Ohio District 2 Science Day and now advance to State Science Day in May. The projects are:

  • Gigi Suhy (9) and Olivia Peterson (9)
  • Reyan Shariff (9) and Carson Mackey (9)
  • Lyndsay Breitner (9) and Lily Richardson (9)
  • Danny Assi (9) and Harley Talbott (9)
  • Elise Denk (10) and Faith Seo (10)
  • Sydney Mack (9) and Claire Sigler (9)
  • Kavita Parikh (11)
  • Barrett Downing (9)
  • Deepta Paramasamy (12)
  • Ishan Khare (11)

In addition to earning a spot at the State Science Day by virtue of their “superior” scores, juniors Kavita Parikh and Ishan Khare also earned spots at the Buckeye Science and Engineering Fair April 4 in Columbus.

An additional six projects earned special recognition and received prize money:

  • Reyan Shariff (9) and Carson Mackey (9) were runners-up for the AIAA/NOS Award and earned $25.
  • Deepta Paramasamy (12) won the Governor’s Thomas Edison Award for Excellence in Advanced or Alternative Energy Research and won $75.
  • Kavita Parikh (11) earned a second-place finish for the Governor’s Thomas Edison Award for Excellence in Advanced Materials Science Research and won $25.
  • Amanda O’Loughlin (10) and Ava Porter (10) won the Mercy College of Ohio Award for Outstanding Project in Biology, Chemistry, or Medicine and earned $75.
  • Karsten Huber (8) won the Mercy College of Ohio Award for Outstanding Project in Biology, Chemistry, or Medicine and earned $50.
  • Elise Denk (10) and Faith Seo (10) earned a second-place finish for the Science of Food, Nutrition and Health Award and earned $30.

“So proud of my Ottawa Hills students. We are looking forward to the state science fair in May,” said biology teacher Jeremy Nixon. “Go Green Bears!” Twenty-seven OH students participated.
